Hot is Cold

by Brian Zinger on September 30, 2012

This time of year the fishing is general hot, however this year has been cold for me. This is the time of year when fish are spawning and trying to store up for the winter. There is usually hatches of Iso’s, BWO’s and caddis to gorge on. This years seems off, probably due to the hot and dry summer (cause it couldn’t be me…naaa). I’ve mostly been guiding the Winooski with only a few small rainbows to show for our hard work. I fished the Lamoille this morning and similar success. What I’ve observed is zero Iso adults, but plently of small #14 iso nymphs on the river bottom. Sporadic good hatches of BWO on the Winooski, but no fish coming to the naturals or imitations of all phases. All fish caught have been wild 1 to 2 year old fish, NO stocked fish. I’ll be guiding in Middlebury mid week. Hatches are what I’ve mentioned, #14 BH Zug Bugs have been most productive.
