Early April Fishing…where is the water?

by Brian Zinger on April 7, 2012

Spent a couple hours on the water with Dana Bolton yesterday.  We hit the Lewis in search of steelhead.  Dana has property farther upstream on the Lewis so I wanted to show him the open water where the steelhead are spawning which is the same area the small mouth will be in another month.  We work hard and only produced a foul hooked sucker.  One thing you’ll notice if you get out this weekend is the lack of water for this time of year and a 180 from last year.  Even the color was clear,  instead of the cloudy emerald color we get from mountain run off.  Water temp was 40.  These conditions should remain the same over the weekend, until we have a chance of precip early next week.  Any precip should be lite and any would be welcome.  The outlook for next Saturday’s opener is Sunny, mid 50’s and great water conditions.
