Princes, are the Prince of nymph patterns

by Brian Zinger on January 15, 2018

The Castaway fly club meets again this Wednesday evening. I plan to stick with tying the the fly I need the most and have plenty of them. The fly I be twisting up is the Prince nymph.

The Prince is my favorite nymph pattern. It is by far the most productive nymph in my box. I catch fish year round by dead drifting and at certain times of year letting swing fast. I like tying them in large size#10 & 12, however having them down to a 16 is good to have. I also like using red thread to tie them. For some reason I think the fish like red heads rather than brunettes. I’ve caught several species of fish on a Prince and they work well as a dropper ice fishing for pan fish.
