Opening Season

by Brian Zinger on January 21, 2016

I’m not talking about an open season for any particular quarry. I’m talking about open season for tying flies.  It opens every year on the 1st of the new year, if the party from the night before doesn’t prevent from me from making it to the vise. This year I get to start fly tying season at a my new office space in the Earthlogic building at 56 Main St. Essex Jct. VT.  This location is where the fly tying club will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month from 7pm to ?.  Stop in and say spaceoffice space 1

Copper John

I tie all of the trout flies for Steam and Brook fly fishing, and I have a bunch of regular clients as well.  I generally tie between 1500 and 2000 flies from January 1st to  May 1st.  I’ve been right at it, with copper johns in size 16 and 14,  3 different colors of woolly buggers size 6 and 12 and bead head Picket Finn’s size 12 completed.  After I do a bunch of Picket Finn’s with an orange body, I’ll be moving on to gold and black stone nymphs.
