Every day can be different when setting out to fish in the Fall. This past week the weather was different everyday, which lead to different strategies or tactics. I also ran into different water conditions all over the Winooski due to water release from the Waterbury Res. or a down pour somewhere up stream of Waterbury making for a change of venue. The only decent hatch I observed was BWO’s. They where in the air everywhere on Wednesday under overcast skies, in a size #22. I only saw a hand full of rises an we couldn’t get a bump on any imitation of the hatch. Nymph imitations of Isonycia have been the go to, and there are a ton of naturals on the river bottom. Very few adults in the air. We have a stretch of unsettled weather this weekend and coming week, so we should continue with good BWO’s hatches. Hopefully the fish will get tuned in.
